Happy holidays!! I can’t believe another year is gone. I’m praying 2010 is going to be a great year! One of the holiday things our family did this year was making candy. We made several different kinds and had so much fun! K’s specialty was making lollipops. He made another batch today of cinnamon, and […]

Achieving Your Childhood Dreams

Time to wake up my blog again! 🙂 I just had to write about this. Randy Pausch passed away today. Dr. Pausch was a professor at Carnegie Mellon, and through the wonders of the internet, his last lecture, given in September, 2007, is able to be shared with the world. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji5_MqicxSo Okay, I keep editing […]

True Talent

A while ago the kids saw or heard something about the trick of hanging a spoon on the end of the nose. We all investigated the physics of how it works, and experimented with different spoons and methods to see if any of us could do it.  Of all of us, only E3 was able to get […]

My mom has always wanted a tetherball set, so when she was in town and saw one in the store she got it for the kids to play. It’s a giant tetherball, and the kids had so much fun! Although I’m going to have to do a little research about the game- according to […]

The kids had a blast making posters and pictures with my mom’s foam stickers. The stickers were a lot of fun, but the cleanup was a little harder than they expected- the paper backing was everywhere, and when the packages said “hundreds” of stickers, they weren’t exaggerating.

One of the state parks close to us does hands-on pioneer demonstrations on Saturday afternoons throughout the summer. When I saw the next one was on blacksmithing, gunsmithing and woodworking, K was really excited to take the kids. We really had fun and learned a lot! The kids used a crosscut saw and a lathe turned with a […]

E2 is interested in electricity right now, and his snap circuit set gets quite a bit of use. This particular experiment demonstrates the conductive properties of water- it sets off the alarm when the wires are put in a glass of water.

E1 has been flying through books this summer. Reading is a normal activity for our family anyway, but she’s taken it to a whole new level. It hasn’t even been a month since we signed up for Summer Reading at the library, and I bet she’s read at least 20 books.

A very neat local independent toy and learning store, Mindventures, has now gone out of business. I stopped in a couple of days before the doors closed for good to see what was left, and walked out with some pretty good deals. I got a huge pack of assorted colored construction paper, a miniature […]
