One of our all-time favorite kinds of cookies is no-bake cookies with oatmeal, peanut butter and chocolate.  Surely they qualify as health food- oatmeal, all-natural peanut butter, and organic milk. Yes, they have a lot of butter and sugar, but as long as those are both organic, they don’t count, right?

It was Visit-The-Library Day. We all chose some great new reads, even E4, and picked up our next audiobook that was on hold- the next Magic Treehouse Books. We also all signed up for summer reading.

Our Pokemon league is held in the back of a hobby store, surrounded by all types of games and toys and art supplies. Our last time there we decided to buy a puzzle game, the object of which is to create the picture on each card with the differently-shaped pieces. E2 has already solved all 60 puzzles that […]

E2 has several Lego X-Pod sets, and he loves to play with the lids and bases, using them for all sorts of things. He also loves patterns and putting things into order, so often the X-Pod lids are left in interesting arrangements.

It was a trip-to-OMSI day. When we got there we discovered all of the upstairs exhibit halls were closed to get ready for the BodyWorlds 3 exhibit. Fortunately, the kids’ absolute favorite exhibit is downstairs in the Turbine Hall- it’s the one where they fill a 2-liter bottle with mixtures of air and water to create enough pressure […]

We had to go pick up the work van from the brake shop, so to make it fun we experimented with several physics principles- namely wind resistance, friction and inertia. 🙂

When I was small, I remember my parents talking about how things were when they were little, especially the things they did or didn’t have or remembered their family getting later in their childhood. Microwaves, televisions, top-loading automatic washing machines, so many things that at the time just seemed such a part of life it was virtually impossible […]

What a fun day! We looked up the history of Cinco de Mayo to find out about La Batalla de Puebla and ate tacos for lunch. That sparked a discussion between K and me about holidays and commercialization, since Mexico doesn’t really celebrate it as a special day.  Then we loaded up the van to […]

E1, E3 and I decided to make brownies for a change of pace. E2 was invited too, but he was having too much fun making a volcano out of the clean towels on the couch. The bright orange washcloths made the perfect lava.

Flower identification is not my thing, I actually had to look up these very common ones to make sure I was right. The kids are always asking what kind of flowers we see on our walks, I guess it’s time to invest in a Spotter’s Guide so we don’t have to wait until we get back […]
